Everything Your Dancer Needs for Their Applications

Ballet schools and training programmes often request several very specific photographs. Achieving the correct position while also considering line, placement, camera angle and lighting can be surprisingly difficult without the right space and support.

Our Ballet Audition & Creative Portrait Experience brings together two complementary areas of expertise.

Rebecca guides and corrects the dancer’s position from a specialist ballet perspective. Helen considers lighting, proportion, camera position and how the dancer’s three-dimensional form will translate into a two-dimensional photograph.

Each photograph appears on screen in the studio as it is taken. Together, we can assess the result, make any necessary adjustments and select the strongest photograph for each required pose during the session.

Your dancer leaves knowing this important part of their application is being professionally taken care of.

Two Specialists. One Carefully Guided Experience.

Helen Moore, professional ballet audition photographer in Fleet, Hampshire

Helen Moore — Photographic Expertise

Helen has worked alongside Rebecca to provide specialist ballet audition photography experiences since 2019.

With a calm, patient approach and a welcoming studio environment, Helen understands how to photograph a three-dimensional body accurately and beautifully in a two-dimensional photograph.

She carefully considers lighting, framing, proportion and camera angle, avoiding distortion and ensuring the dancer’s line can be seen clearly.

While Rebecca concentrates on ballet technique and placement, Helen takes care of everything behind the camera. The result is a smooth, supportive experience in which the dancer can concentrate on performing each position without also worrying about the photography.

Together, Rebecca and Helen review the photographs as they are created, making adjustments where necessary and selecting the most suitable result for each application requirement.

Rebecca Fraiz is a highly experienced classical ballet teacher and former panellist for The Royal Ballet School’s nationwide preliminary auditions, selecting dancers for full-time training and Associate programmes.

Rebecca Fraiz — Ballet Expertise

Rebecca Fraiz is a highly experienced classical ballet teacher and former panellist for The Royal Ballet School’s nationwide preliminary auditions, selecting dancers for full-time training and Associate programmes.

A former Royal Ballet School student and Associate herself, Rebecca later became an Associate teacher for The Royal Ballet School and an Artistic Teacher at White Lodge. She is a graduate of The Royal Ballet School’s Diploma of Dance Teaching, specialising in vocational training, and has also taught at Central School of Ballet and English National Ballet School.

Rebecca brings an exceptionally experienced eye to every session. She guides placement, line and positioning, helping each dancer present the required poses as clearly and accurately as possible.

Her experience of both vocational training and the preliminary audition process gives dancers and parents valuable confidence at an important point in the application journey.

How Your Experience Unfolds

1. Prepare

Before the session, we will ask which schools, programmes or intensives your dancer intends to apply for.

You will need to supply the current photographic requirements for each application. We will use these to plan the required poses and file specifications.

On the day, Rebecca will begin with a short ballet warm-up to help prepare the dancer’s body and mind.

2. Refine and Photograph

Rebecca will guide the dancer through each required position, refining placement and line as needed.

Helen will photograph each pose with careful attention to lighting, proportion and camera angle. The photographs appear on screen as they are taken, allowing Rebecca and Helen to assess the result and repeat or adjust a pose where beneficial.

The strongest photograph for each requirement will be selected during the session, removing the need for you to choose between a large gallery afterwards.

3. Create

Once the essential audition photographs have been completed, your dancer may choose to use the remaining session time for creative dance portraits.

This is their opportunity to change into a favourite leotard, skirt, costume or tutu and create something more expressive and individual.

Creative portraits are entirely optional. Some dancers prefer to dedicate their full appointment to audition requirements, and we will ask about their preference before the day.

Where creative portraits form part of the session, approximately 3–5 finished photographs are generally achieved. The precise number will depend on the time available and the dancer’s ability, focus and stamina on the day.

An All-Inclusive Experience

This experience has been designed to provide everything your dancer needs for their planned ballet auditions and applications without requiring them to select a digital package afterwards.

The booking includes all essential audition photographs planned from the application requirements supplied to us, plus time for optional creative dance portraits where the session allows.

Sessions are up to two hours in length, giving us time to create a supportive and carefully paced experience. What can be achieved during that time will naturally depend on the number and complexity of the application requirements, together with the dancer’s ability, focus and stamina on the day.

The essential audition photographs will always be our first priority. Rebecca and Helen will guide and pace the session appropriately to achieve the best possible result for each dancer.

Proven Experience

Dancers photographed through this experience have subsequently secured places on prestigious intensive programmes where photographs formed part of the application process.

Professional photographs cannot guarantee the outcome of an audition or application. Selection will always depend on the individual dancer and the criteria of the school or programme.

What this experience does provide is the confidence of knowing that the requested poses have been carefully guided, professionally photographed and prepared according to the specifications supplied—without the uncertainty of trying to create them at home.

“I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Helen for Ballet audition photography and creative dance portraits.

The experience was stress free from start to finish and we are delighted with the final pictures.

Highly recommend!   Thank you Helen and Rebecca.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What should we send you before the session?

Please send us the current photographic instructions for every school, programme or intensive your dancer is planning to apply for.

Requirements and file specifications can vary between organisations and may change from year to year, so we work from the information supplied for your dancer’s current applications.

Are all the audition photographs included?

Yes. This is an all-inclusive experience rather than a package-based session.

We will plan the essential poses required for the applications you tell us about in advance. Sessions last for up to two hours, so the number and complexity of those requirements must be achievable within the appointment.

Are creative dance portraits included?

Time for creative dance portraits is included where the dancer would like them and the audition requirements have been completed with sufficient session time remaining.

Approximately 3–5 finished creative portraits are generally achieved. These are optional, and some dancers choose to concentrate entirely on their audition photographs.

Can the photographs be used for several applications?

Yes, where the required poses and specifications are suitable. Please provide the instructions for all intended applications before the session so that we can plan appropriately.

How will we receive the photographs?

Your completed digital photographs will be delivered through a private download link by Monday 5 October 2026.

You will receive application-ready files prepared to the specifications supplied, print-ready copies suitable for printing up to 12 inches on the longest side, screen-sized copies and black-and-white versions.

Does professional photography improve the likelihood of acceptance?

Professional photographs cannot guarantee a place, audition or successful application.

The experience ensures that the requested positions are carefully guided, clearly photographed and professionally prepared, allowing the dancer to submit photographs that meet the supplied requirements.

Where does the experience take place?

The experience takes place at Moore & Moore Photography’s welcoming home studio in Fleet, Hampshire, close to Junction 4a of the M3.

Fleet Railway Station is approximately five minutes away by taxi.

How do we reserve an appointment?

After submitting the form, you can choose to book one of the four available appointments immediately and pay the £475 Moore & Moore Photography fee online.

If you would prefer to discuss your dancer’s requirements first, that is absolutely fine. We will contact you to answer your questions, talk through the experience and help you choose the most suitable available appointment.

Rebecca Fraiz’s separate £200 specialist ballet tuition fee will be arranged directly with Rebecca, and her invoice will be sent for payment shortly after your booking.
