How to display your wedding photos & portrait photography
When it comes to displaying your favourite wedding photos or specially commissioned portrait photography there are many ways in which to approach it.
Here we talk about various framing and display options, helping you decide on the best size of frames for your home.
Wall Art Size Guide
Even when you know what you’re looking for, choosing the correct art for your home is not an easy process. Between decor colours, personal preferences, price points, and size constraints it can be difficult to finally pull the trigger and know that a piece will work in your home. Here, we break down the different sizes of wall art, dispel some of the confusion involving size and placement, and learn how to find the perfect-sized art piece for your space.
Wall Art Placement and Size
When determining which size of artwork you’d like to place in your home, different sizing terms can be confusing without a reference point. However, size conventions that Moore&Moore Photography offer are consistent, and are outlined below so you know exactly what to expect.
Mini wall art will always fall between 10 and 17 inches. These pieces of art can range from slightly larger than a sheet of paper to about 1 1/2 feet—about the size of a computer monitor. Individual products will further specify their exact size dimensions. Though mini wall art pieces can stand alone, they are most often used as part of a grouping or collection.
Small wall art will always fall between 18 and 24 inches, or about the length of a microwave. Like mini wall art, small wall art is often most impactful in a grouping or paired with another print for a symmetrical look.
Medium wall art refers to art between 25 inches and 32 inches, or about 2 to 3 feet. Depending upon the size of the space you’re decorating, a medium-sized piece of wall art could stand alone, or be used as an anchor for a gallery wall or grouping.
Large wall art will always fall between 33 and 40 inches, or about 2 1/2 feet to nearly 4 feet. A wall can look complete with just one piece of large art, creating a classic look.
Oversized wall art refers to all wall art 41 inches or larger. Pieces of this size can stand alone as focal points of a wall or room. Spaces should be measured before installing a piece of oversized wall art as the piece can overwhelm small walls.
Tip! Keep the bottom frame of your wall art 6 to 12 inches above the top of your sofa to create enough visual space.
Gallery walls are a great, inexpensive way to fill your home with your favourite pieces. Though a gallery wall can be placed anywhere, one of the best spots is on a large, empty wall. Having enough blank space around the artwork ensures the arrangement does not look cluttered.
