Group Photographs at Weddings and why you should have them

The Family Groups or Family Formals Photographs at weddings and why you should have them.

Love them or loathe them, the family group photographs are an integral part of any wedding day.

Family portraits, groups or formals, can get carried away on the day and quickly suck up time after the ceremony.

But we understand how important they are.  After all, this might be one of the few times you will have the entire family in one place!   However, if you aren’t careful, this is usually when you will lose the most time from your day.   The longer family photo takes, the less time you will have to enjoy your drinks reception and the photographs of just the two of you.

The importance of group photographs at weddings

But we understand how important they are. After all, this might be one of the few times you will have the entire family in one place!

They are also key photos for the wedding album, very popular for family members to own, and a beautiful record of who was there on the day.

However, if you aren’t careful, the group photographs is one area when a lot of time can be lost.   The longer family photo takes, the less time you will have to enjoy your drinks reception and the photographs of just the two of you.

Getting the right mix of group photos on your wedding day.

Depending on what you’d like, try and aim for a maximum of 30 minutes for group photos.   That is usually doable if everybody cooperates and sticks around right after the ceremony and at Moore & Moore Photography we suggest that our bride and grooms nominate a groomsman, or two!! who can ensure the relevant people don’t run away!

Here’s an example list to help you get started;

Bride’s family
B&G with bride’s immediately family
B&G with bride’s parents
B&G with bride’s siblings
B&G with uncles/aunts/cousins from bride’s side.

Groom’s family

B&G with groom’s parents
B&G with groom’s sibilings
B&G with uncles/aunts/cousins from groom’s side.

Bridal Party

This is just an idea for family and bridal party groups so please take it as a guideline, but try not to exceed 10-15 varying groups as time rapidly runs out!

Book your Wedding Photography

It takes time and effort to put amazing group wedding pictures together, but we think the effort is well worth it and our clients love and value the results, and these key photographs always make it into the Wedding Album.

Your Wedding Photography is an ever-lasting memento from your Wedding Day.   The dress, the cake, the venue are all important elements, but at the end of the day, the cake is eaten, the flowers fade and die, and the guests go home.

The photographs are the memories you hold in your hand forever.
